Upcoming Event: Talk by John Krige on "Cooperation and Competition beyond Borders"

22.11.2018 at 18:30

We are very happy to announce our upcoming event:

Professor John Krige (GeorgiaTech, Atlanta) will be speaking on

"Rethinking Cold War Science: Cooperation and Competition Beyond Borders in the Cold War" .

Time: Thursday, November 22, 18:30 Uhr

Event Location: Institut für Zeitgeschichte, Munich

This talk will address the role of the state, and the United States in particular, in managing cooperation and competition in cutting-edge science and technology during the Cold War. It will highlight the role of the US as a global actor, mobilizing knowledge as a tool of foreign policy in dealing with both its allies and its enemies. Cooperation and competition are not mutually exclusive categories: they are entwined with each other in a range of practices that I will characterize as calibrated cooperation.

This lecture will be the keynote of our Workshop "Rethinking Cold War Science: Cooperation and Competition Beyond Borders".
